4 Days of Canyons, High-Altitude Lakes,
and Horseback Riding
Itinerary
Day 1: Bishkek – Fairy Tale Canyon – Sonun Yurt Camp
Our journey begins with a drive to the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake, the "Pearl of Central Asia." We stop at the Fairy Tale (Skazka) Canyon to hike among dramatic red rock formations that resemble castles and mythical beasts. After a traditional lunch featuring crispy kattama bread, we settle into Yurt Camp on the lakeshore to enjoy the tranquility of the water and fresh mountain air.
Day 2: Bokonbaevo – Shabyr Yurt Camp (Horseback)
After breakfast, we head to the village, where our horseback adventure begins. Meet your local guides and horses before setting off through untouched mountain trails. We ride through scenic valleys and ridges, eventually arriving at the picturesque Shabyr Yurt Camp for a night of authentic Kyrgyz hospitality.
Day 3: Shabyr Yurt Camp – Son-Kul Lake (Horseback)
Today, we ascend toward the magnificent Son-Kul Lake (3,016 m). This is the ultimate nomadic experience: riding across vast alpine pastures used by shepherds for centuries. As we reach the high plateau, the landscape opens up to reveal the shimmering blue lake. We spend the night in a yurt camp right on the lakeshore under a canopy of stars.
Day 4: Son-Kul – Horseback Riding – Bishkek
Enjoy a peaceful morning at Son-Kul followed by a 3–4 hour horseback ride along the lake’s edge, capturing panoramic views of grazing herds and distant peaks. After a final mountain lunch, we begin our scenic drive back to Bishkek, descending through dramatic mountain passes to conclude an unforgettable journey.
